2017 has been good to me. When looking back at my year I realized I did a lot work on me and I am so proud of all my accomplishments.
Did I make it to my goal weight?
Did I eat “healthy” every day?
Did I exercise every day and run the 5k I wanted to run?
The answer to each of these questions is no and I am not the least bit angry at myself. Why you might ask? Because for once in my life I am focusing on what I did accomplish and how I feel now. What did 2017 bring…..a healthier relationship with food, breaking the finding the next best diet plan/fad, sticking to workouts that worked for me, and most of all not comparing myself to others. I also found professionals who instead of making me feel “ashamed” for not being at the ideal weight, encourage me that my slow and steady pace is the best thing I can do for myself and personal health. It is the first time in a long time that I feel comfortable in my body and feel that I have the right tools to get me to where I want to be.
For 2018 I am going to focus on these three things:
· Focus on Food First- Exercise Second
· Make the right thing to eat the easiest thing to eat
· Practice self-care and gratitude toward a healthy mindset
No numbers, gimmicks, or get thin schemes. Just three healthy principals to keep the momentum of 2017 going. I don’t have a “program” I am following that makes me count things as I found it was causing me a lot of unnecessary stress and anxiety. When I was speaking with my wellness team (aka doctors and nutritionist) we found that I was becoming too caught up with numbers and meeting program requirements and not focusing on foods that will make me feel better. I have food lists that I choose from and build menus from there. It has put my mind at ease and have seen the scale move in the direction I want. Finding what works for me has been a long process and I am feeling great with what I have created for me in 2018.
Mom on the Run will continue to be the place I document my journey and share and highlight healthy recipes that I either create or recreate in my own kitchen. 2018 is going to be a great year!
