The College of William and Mary
Catherine Turley, aka the Trainer on the Run, is excited to be teaming up with Mom on the Run to bring blog fans practical fitness tips. Catherine is an ACE-Certified Personal Trainer who has worked in several fitness facilities throughout New England as a fitness trainer, group exercise instructor, and fitness center manager. Her fitness employers have ranged from larger, trendy, private gyms to more relaxed women-only facilities.
Catherine holds her B.S. in Biology from the College of William and Mary. She has used her degree to help her clients understand why fad diets and many “as seen on tv” exercise gadgets don’t work. Currently, Catherine is pursuing her Master’s degree in Secondary Science Education at UCONN and working part time as a personal trainer in the Greater Hartford area. As a future science teacher, Catherine hopes to inspire her students to live active lives and use the skills they will learn in the science classroom to analyze the legitimacy of advertisement claims.
Although she can’t imagine life without exercise now (and unfortunately for her friends’ and family’s sake becomes quite crabby when she doesn’t work out on a regular basis), Catherine sympathizes with the beginning exerciser. She hated gym class so much as a young girl that she finds it beyond ironic that she pursued a career in the fitness industry after college. From personal experience and working with clients, Catherine strongly believes in the power of fitness to enhance one’s life in a positive way. She believes the trick to catching the fitness bug is finding a routine that you actually enjoy. Catherine found running cross-country to be her first fitness love and continues to run road races on her own time.
Catherine looks forward to answering your fitness questions in Mom on the Run’s “Ask the Trainer” section and helping members reach their personal fitness goals. Her personal fitness goal this year is to run her first marathon. (Tip number one for aspiring fitness-loving friends-putting your goal in writing can make all the difference!)
Happy Training!
Catherine will be working on a weekly segment for Mom on the Run that will appear on Wednesdays. We are very excited for the many possibilities that this segment will lend itself too.
