Today’s segment was a question that I had for Jana when I first started working with her. I have been trying my hardest to get all my water in but I did not know how much I truly needed to keep my weight loss going. I am excited to announce that I have lost 5 pounds since working with her. Here is her great advice.
DRINK WATER to LOSE WEIGHT!
- Before you put anything in your body, drink a glass of water (a little lemon would be good to add). Many vitamins are water-soluble and this will help your body absorb nutrients from your food. The lemon is acidic and helps create balance in your digestive tract.
- Why does your body need water?
- Helps you dissolve food and turn it into energy
- Needed to carry waste out of the body
- Regulates body temperature
- Carries messages to the brain
- To build and maintain muscle
-
- Water Retention – Typically caused by poor diet, lack of exercise and dehydration
- Muscles need water to work, build and repair so yes, active muscles hold more water than non-active muscles. After exercise and activity, your muscles will hold a little more water.
- Your body is 45-75% water depending on your make up. Muscle tissue is about 70-80% water. Fat tissue is 10% water.
- Water Retention – Typically caused by poor diet, lack of exercise and dehydration
- Drinking water does not make you bloated – too much sodium consumption does that.
How Much Should I Drink?
- Divide your body weight in half – that is aproximately how many ounces of water you should consume daily.
- If you exercise under an hour, an extra glass should be enough.
- If you exercise over 60 minutes, you will need a little more.
- If you exercise over 90 minutes, electrolites will need to be replenished.

I am a busy mom of three amazing girls and wife to an even busier husband. When I am not teaching or driving the mini-van, you will find me in the kitchen cooking, meal planning, and of course blogging about maintaining a healthy lifestyle with a busy family schedule.

I do great drinking water at work (we have Ice Mountain) but on the weekends all I drink is wine!
Great tips – I try to get in 90-100 ounces a day.
I never drink enough water. It is something I work at.
