Get Organized and Go Green snackTAXI Giveaway!

Thank you for all your organization and preparation strategies for portion control. Can I tell you how good it felt this morning to just grab my containers of food and go! I was ready and out the door in no time, with gasp time to spare. The one thing that I am trying to reduce is the use of plastic baggies to “store” my many snacks I take to work. I attempt to use reusable containers as much as I can but these can get bulky to store in my very cute lunch box from Cool Totes :)

IMG_4026 I have found the perfect storage solution that is not only environmentally friendly, but extremely cute to accompany any lunch bag. This amazing solution is from the makers of snackTAXI.

snackTAXIs  are a line of reusable bags for snacks and sandwiches in a variety of fun fabrics. They were created back in 2003 as a way to stem the tide of plastic Ziplock bags that flowed into our landfills.

They are made in a home-based workshop by local sewers.  The company is committed to keeping their business local, and will never outsource their labor.

I was sent a waste-free lunch starter kit which contained a  twice-as-nice napkin, sandwich-sack, and a snack-sack.

IMG_4252 Are these not the cutest things ever. I love all the designs and colors. I use my red snack sack to store my almonds.

IMG_4254 The question that I had about snackTaxi was how to clean them. Here is the answer.

Q. How do you care for snackTAXIs?

A. It’s anything goes when it comes to washing your snackTAXI.  They can be machine washed (we recommend unscented detergent) and dried or simply rinsed with water and air dried. As with anything that gets washed, they will last longer with hand washing and air drying, but they are quite durable any way you wash them!

Another great fact that I found while reading the brochure I received with my set, is that snackTAXIs are a great alternative to plastic bags and wraps, especially when just one reusable bag has the potential to eliminate an average of 1000 plastic bags over its lifetime!

I will be using these every time I pack my lunch now! I just have to order more for my girls to use now :)

Spring Has Come in with a Bang

Hi Blog Friends!!!

It seems like so long, since I have posted. All I can say is work, girl’s busy schedule, and Easter coming up. We are busily trying to prepare for Spring. You will find no complaints here as Spring bring nicer weather and outdoor activities.

Spring has also made me realize that I have been slacking in the organization front when it comes to preparing for the week. I decided that after I came home with the groceries this week that I was going to divide items up so all I would have to do is pull things out of the fridge and go. I did have the luxury of having a great new kitchen gadget to assist me in bagging up my lunch box items.

Portable Nutritional Tracker
The Ultra Slim Escali Cesto portable nutritional scale allows the user to have access to weight and nutritional data at home and away. The user friendly "touch glass"display shows calories, sodium, protein, fat, carbohydrates, cholesterol or fiber via the input of 999 different food codes. The Cesto can calculate total nutritional value for up to 99 different meal components.

This scale is an amazing addition to any kitchen. Today I measured to make sure I was getting the 1/2 cup of fruit I wanted for my snack tomorrow. I didn’t even need to dirty a measuring cup! I placed the container that I wanted to use to store the fruit directly on the scale. I entered the 3-digit code food code for strawberries, and weighed my berries.

IMG_4234 A few short seconds and I had my correct portion controlled snack. I loved the fact that not only did it measure for weight but also gave me the nutritional  stats for the strawberries. Each cup had approximately 42 calories of strawberries. Great tool if you are counting calories or want to know what 42 calories of strawberries looks like.

IMG_4235 Look at me being so organized. You will be seeing my new scale out a lot and in pictures. Escali will totally change how you measure the food in kitchen. They have many models and colors to choose from. I am so excited that I am able to integrate their scale into my kitchen!

What are some things you do to stay organized in the kitchen and watch portion control?

I am going to try to keep dry with the incoming rain storms coming to New England. Not sure how much time I will be able to post or comment this week. I am going to preparing for my Easter dinner for 20. Any ideas welcomed!
